Diana Jaramillo Keane Selected as a 2025 Hispanic Leadership Institute Fellow

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Nov. 21, 2024 – Diana Jaramillo Keane, executive director of sustainable facilities planning, design, and construction at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), has been selected as a fellow in the 2025 class of the prestigious Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI).

State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. recently announced the selection of 10 emerging Hispanic leaders and allies for this year’s cohort, marking the eighth class since the program’s inception in 2017.

As a licensed architect in New York state, Jaramillo Keane manages capital improvement projects ranging from $5,000 to $135 million across ESF’s nine campuses. She plays a key role in advancing the College’s commitment to sustainability, energy conservation, and carbon reduction across its Syracuse campus and satellite locations.

An award-winning architect and entrepreneur, Jaramillo Keane founded Kin Studio in 2017 with a mission to deliver equitable and sustainable architecture. Before joining ESF, she worked as a general engineer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Syracuse.

Originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Jaramillo Keane holds a master’s degree in sustainable construction management from ESF, a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University, and an associate degree in architectural technology from Onondaga Community College. Her connection to ESF is personal—she spent time on campus as a child while her mother pursued graduate studies, making her return as director of facilities a full-circle moment.

The Hispanic Leadership Institute, made possible through generous support from New York State and the State Assembly and Senate Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force, has empowered 71 of SUNY’s brightest Hispanic faculty, staff, and allies. The program provides rigorous executive training and a network of support to help fellows grow into influential leaders within their institutions and communities.

“To foster a truly diverse and welcoming environment at SUNY, we must ensure that diverse voices are represented, heard, and celebrated at every level of our system. The Hispanic Leadership Institute has helped 71 individuals become leaders at their respective institutions and serve as role models for all students, allowing them to see what is possible for themselves,” said Chancellor King.

"Congratulations to Diana on being selected as a 2025 Hispanic Leadership Institute Fellow,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “This recognition reflects Diana’s strong leadership and dedication to sustainability at ESF. Her ability to lead by example and commitment to making a impact is exactly what the HLI aims to support in emerging leaders."

The nine-month HLI fellowship program offers intensive leadership development through training sessions, webinars, and interactions with national and statewide leaders. Fellows gain personal insights and access to valuable professional opportunities while receiving ongoing mentorship and networking support.
