Interested in taking a few courses with SUNY ESF, but not yet ready to pursue a degree? Looking to stay on track—or get ahead—while pursuing your bachelor's or master's degree at another institution? Want to advance your skillset? We have opportunities for you!
SUNY ESF welcomes students from other campuses and our community during all of our academic sessions, including summer sessions.

Visiting Students
You can register as a Visiting Student for undergraduate or graduate course(s) during the fall, spring and summer semesters. You must submit a registration form for each term you wish to attend. Upon confirmation of your enrollment, we'll send you an email with instructions and next steps.
Registration forms for Spring 2024 will be available on Monday, December 18th.
Submission of a visiting student registration form is your intent to enroll in a course.
ESF Course Offerings
Cross-Registered Students
Are you enrolled as a matriculated student at another SUNY campus? You may be eligible to enroll as a Cross-Registered Student in a course with ESF through cross-registration with your home university or college Registrar's Office.
Audit Students
Are you interested in attending a course at SUNY ESF but don't need to earn credit? You can register for a course(s) as an Audit Student during the fall and spring semesters with instructor permission. (Please note that audit registrations are not permitted during the summer semester.)
Senior Audit Students
Are you a New York State resident, and interested in taking a course at SUNY ESF? New York State law permits residents 60 years or older to audit credit-bearing classes at state-affiliated campuses free of charge. With instructor's permission, you can register for a course during the fall and spring semesters by completing a Senior Audit Registration Form. Senior Audit students participate in class activities at the discretion of the instructor and on a space-available basis. If course space is limited, instructors may wait until the add/drop deadline before approving the request.
Limitations
- Matriculated students are not eligible to participate in the Senior Audit Student Program.
- Enrollment in field, lab, studio, and online courses are not permitted for Senior Audit students due to limited space availability.
- Senior Audit students may request to audit a course during the Fall and Spring semesters only.
High School Students
Are you a rising high school junior or senior interested in taking a course and earning credits at SUNY ESF? You can to register for a course(s) as a visiting student during the fall, spring and summer semesters in 100 and 200 level undergraduate courses if you meet the prerequisites.
