Carbon Tax and CNY: A Community ForumCampus Calendar
Friday, March 22, 2019
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: 220 Eggers Hall, Syracuse University campus
Event Description: Many economists agree that some form of carbon pricing will be key in addressing climate change. However, the issue of a carbon tax raises big questions: Is a carbon tax politically feasible? Would it have a meaningful effect on greenhouse gas emissions? What would be the burden on low income families in urban and rural communities? How would the revenue be spent?
Students from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and SUNY-ESF host a panel discussion and community conversation about the carbon tax and its effect on the lives of Central New Yorkers. The event will highlight H.R. 763, the “Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act of 2019”, a bipartisan carbon tax bill recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The event is free to all, and a light dinner will be served. No prior knowledge of carbon taxes among attendees is assumed.
