Faculty Profile
Tania Ploumi

Assistant Professor
244 Marshall Hall
Profile
Tania joined SUNY ESF after completing PhD in Environmental Science from UMass Boston, where she explored the links between ecosystem services and mental health, bringing a unique interdisciplinary perspective to her work. Her academic journey also includes studies in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Social Psychology, as well as Ecosystem Services (MSc at the University of Edinburgh, UK), which underpin her research on applied sustainable pedagogical approaches and the broader socio-economic benefits of nature. Beyond her research, Dr. Ploumi is dedicated to innovative teaching and active community engagement, continually bridging the gap between academic inquiry and real-world environmental challenges. Prior to her academic career, Tania managed and coordinated large-scale projects in both the UK and Greece in the fields of science communication, community and stakeholder engagement, and ecosystem services. Her current work encompasses innovative pedagogical approaches in applied sustainability and transdisciplinary research linking ecosystem services and the natural environment with mental health, climate justice, and sustainability management. This blend of teaching, research, and applied project management, along with her various certifications in sustainability (e.g., GRI Professional Certification), highlights her dedication to bridging scientific research with real-world environmental challenges.
