ESF Women’s Cross-country Finishes Third

The ESF women's cross-country team ran an impressive race Oct. 15 at the Annual Cross-Country Only Colleges Championship Meet hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva. The Mighty Oaks women placed third out of 16 teams.

The meet was open to colleges that sponsor cross-country programs and don't have winter or spring track and field teams. Hobart and William Smith Colleges placed first with 45 points, followed by Clarkson University in second with 54 points. ESF finished with a score of 75, an impressive 92 points ahead of the fourth place team, Cazenovia College with 167 points.

Cazenovia was followed by Hartwick College, 185 points; D'Youville College,185 points; Paul Smith's College,186; SUNY Morrisville, 240 points; Pennsylvania State-Altoona, 259 points; SUNY Canton, 304 points; SUNY Potsdam, 306 points; Keuka College, 318 points; Medaille College, 337 points; Hilbert College, 370 points; SUNY I.T., 381 points; and Pennsylvania State-Abington, 416 points.

The Oaks were again led by freshman standout Cambria Ziemer, who placed second overall out of 126 runners to William Smith's elite runner, Emily D'Addario. Ziemer finished the muddy 5K course in an impressive 20:50.38. Second for ESF was junior Danielle Kaveney who finished fifth overall with a time of 21:19.16. Kaveney was followed closely by Danielle Zgardzinski, sophomore, 13th; Emily Martin, junior, 25th; Elizabeth Bourguet, freshman, 32nd; Charlotte Evanofski, senior, 39th; Kaitlin Larson, senior, 42nd; Kristin Pasquino, junior, 48th; and Mikayla Bittner, freshman, 75th.

The Mighty Oaks women will compete in their last regular season meet Saturda, Oct. 22, in the Heron Invitational in Geneva.
