Soccer Teams Lose to Daemen College
Both ESF soccer teams came up short against Daemen College in physical matches Sept. 22 with a 2-1 loss for the men and a 3-1 loss for the women .
For the men's squad, junior Patrick Alcott scored in the 60th minute. Steve Tyrell supported the Mighty Oaks with excellent defensive play and was aided by freshman goalie Adam Belkadi, who had 12 saves.
Susan Fassler scored in the 80th minute for the women's team. Junior goalkeeper Olivia Gagliari had 17 saves and got help from sophomores Ashley Miller and Meg Beckwith, who both contributed solid defensive play.
The Mighty Oaks faced strong competition from Daemen College, which has been accepted into NCAA Division 2 and is in its transition phase.
The defeat for the women came just two days after the Mighty Oaks women had defeated Wells College in a 2-1 stunner Sept .20.
Bridget Cuddihy got the team going early, scoring in the fourth minute. She then served up an assist to Jessica Savo, who scored in the 35th minute.
Goalkeeper Olivia Gagliardi had a solid game with eight saves. She was helped out on defense by Ashley Miller, Meg Beckwith, Drew Gamils, Tina Elliot and Mary Clark.
The offense outshot Wells 23-9. The midfield of Sue Fassler, Kelsey Taylor and Alysa Johnson hustled to help control the game.
When asked about the victory, ESF's leading scorer, Bridget Cuddihy, said, "I really like scoring goals. Tonight's game? Overall, it was a great game and a turning point in the season."
Sophomore center back Madison Cummiski said, "Dealing with out recent results, tonight we reacted positively and walked away with a win."
