AIC in Newcomb Closed Because of Water Main Break

The Adirondack Interpretive Center (AIC) at ESF's Newcomb campus is closed because of a water main break.

Trails remain open for recreational use, dawn to dusk, but the AIC building will remain closed until the break is repaired.

During this time all scheduled programs will continue but they will be relocated to other locations at the Newcomb Campus.

"Recent severe cold and low snow accumulation pushed frost deeply enough to rupture the main water line serving the AIC building," said Paul B. Hai, program coordinator for ESF's Northern Forest Institute.. "After considering all the options, we made the difficult decision to close the building only until the ground thaws enough to repair the water line and restore full service to AIC."

The college will use this period to work on several major improvements at AIC, including energy efficiency upgrades and the initiation of the exhibit room renovation.
