Cross-Country Men Finish First at CCOC; Women Second
The ESF men's cross-country team raced to first place and the women's team finished second Oct. 19 at the Cross Country Only Championship race at Seneca Lake State Park. There were 18 teams in the event.
The Mighty Oaks men were led by Tom Arcuri, who finished third; Timmy Callahan, fourth; and Jon Cleveland fifth. They were closely followed by Stephen Slonosky, Reed Scott, Malcolm Moncheur, Michael Perrson, Taylor Yerrick, Peter LeDuc and Jeremy Driscoll. Other notable runners were Alex Fisher, Nick Grieco, Caleb Rudge, James McKenna, Kai Crannell, Jacob Wolfgong, Brian Busby, Matt DeLuca, Matt Serrao and Nathan Sleight. The men finished 10 points ahead of second-place Clarkson. This was the first time ESF had won this event.
Kristen Campbell led the ESF women. Just 11 seconds behind her was Emily Martin, followed closely by Jenny Frank, Lauren Lynn, Allison Cronk, and Danielle Zgardzinski. Cambria Ziemer, Emma Putman, Elle Leach, Liz Bourguet, Lauren Alteio, Nicole Mason, Haley Canham and and Kelly McKenna also turned in solid performances. The women were edged out by only two points by first-place Hartwick.
The Mighty Oaks' season now prepare for Nov. 8, when the men will defend their two-time USCAA national title. The women, who finished third last year, look to capture their first national title.
The USCAA National Championship cross-country race will be held at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, N.Y. The women's race will be at 11 a.m., and the men race at noon.
