Mighty Oaks Soccer Teams Set for 2014 Season

The Mighty Oaks men's and women's soccer teams begin preseason training in mid-August as they prepare to kick off their seasons at the end of the month.

The men's team is coming off its fourth consecutive winning season and a top 15 ranking within the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association.

Coach Dan Ramin reports the players set goals of recapturing the King of the Hill Cup from Onondaga Community College and the Barkeater Cup from Paul Smith's College. They are also shooting to surpass the success they had in the 2012 National Championship tournament, in which they reached the quarterfinals.

"I am very excited to play my last competitive season with my teammates at ESF this fall. We all have the same goal and that is to be in West Virginia competing in nationals in November," said senior Captain Kyle Bardwell.

The men's team begins its season with a match 4 p.m. Aug. 23 against Davis College at the Binghamton Sportsplex.

The women's team made its mark in 2013 by compiling the most wins in program history and making its debut appearance at the USCAA National Championship tournament. The team was ranked ninth in the nation and remained undefeated for nine weeks before finishing the season with a 10-3-1 record. The Mighty Oaks were seeded fourth in the National Championship tournament before losing to Alfred State.

One of the Mighty Oaks' opponents this season will be the defending national champion, the University of Maine Fort Kent, in a home game Sept. 28.

"Expectations are high this season," said junior Captain Madison Cummiskey. "The team feels like there is some unfinished business to attend to. We will be pushing ourselves as a team to achieve personal and team goals in order to make it back to nationals and on to a championship!"

The women's team will open its season Aug. 30 at the New Hampshire Tech Labor Day Invitational against Fisher College. The Mighty Oaks are the defending tournament champion.
