ESF Marks 15th Anniversary of Campus Day of Service

In 2000, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) introduced the Campus Day of Service to the community. Now, 15 years later, the program has grown to an event that not only includes members of the ESF community, but also alumni in projects that benefit the community.

This year's event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 18.

The Campus Day of Service program was created by the Office of Student Activities and the Student Activities Programming Board in an effort to strengthen ties between the college and the community, according to Meagan Pepper, program coordinator for community and career services. The program occurs twice a year: in September after the first-year student retreat, and again in the spring on the same day as the college's annual spring banquet.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Campus Day of Service, the college has increased the number of volunteer sites, as well as the number of volunteers, and is including alumni this year, said Pepper. Many of the service projects are led by ESF alumni who work at or volunteer with the host organizations/sites. The college has enjoyed long-standing partnerships with many of the sites and organizations that participate yearly.

This year, volunteers will help at SyracuseGrows' 7th Annual Resource Drive, Comfort Tyler Park, ESF Edibles Garden, Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery, CNY Land Trust: Camillus Valley Nature Preserve, Morningside Cultural Trail and Green Lakes State Park.
