ESF Woodsmen Host Annual Meet

The Mighty Oaks women's and men's woodsmen teams finished in first and second place overall out of 10 schools in their annual home meet.

The women's team swept the competition in all categories. The team won the bowsaw competition, team crosscut, logroll and pulp toss. The following student-athletes won singles events: Sonja Wixom (super swede), Erin Stoddard (pole climb) and Michelle Vasiloff (cookie stack).

For the first time in four years, the women's side fielded a B team consisting entirely of freshman. The team impressed the crowd with a fourth place overall finish. Abby Fowler won first place in the obstacle pole event. Together the ladies finished second in team logroll.

On the men's side, the team finished in second place, a huge improvement from their fifth place finish at Paul Smith's College on Oct. 17. Senior Jake Murphy won the axe throw singles event. In the double pair, the duo of Francis McParland and Adam Wilcken placed first in the fire build.

The men's B team placed sixth overall. Tim Czappla placed first in the cookie stack event.

The Jack and Jill team finished fifth overall.

More than 45 Mighty Oak fans squeezed into a fan bus that took students from the ESF campus to the event site in Tully, N.Y. The woodsmen's team will be back in action spring 2016.
