ESF Ranks among ‘Best Value’ Schools
The College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has earned a spot in U.S. News & World Report's annual Best College Rankings list, coming in at No. 38 among the "Best Value Schools" in the National Universities category.
ESF is the highest-ranked SUNY school in the Best Values group, landing between the University of Southern California and Pepperdine University.
"I'm proud to see this acknowledgement of the value of an ESF education," said ESF Interim President Dave Amberg. "Our students are committed to improving the world, so they deserve the highest quality education at an affordable price point, that's what we deliver and we appreciate the recognition of this by U.S. News & World Report."
The Best Value Schools list takes into account a school's academic quality and net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid.
The magazine states, "The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included, because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that are above average academically."
ESF is ranked No. 46 among the Top Public Schools in the National Universities category. The National Universities category comprises 312 institutions - 191 public, 114 private and seven for-profit - that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral degrees, and emphasize faculty research. Many of the nation's most prestigious research universities are ranked in this group.
The rankings also put ESF at No. 45 among National Universities for the rate of giving among alumni.
The rankings evaluate colleges and universities on 16 measures of academic quality.
