ESF Graduate Students Host Student-Led Research Conference

Call for Abstracts from CNY graduate students announced

ESF’s Graduate Student Association will be providing research students the opportunity to present and fine-tune their research ideas at the inaugural CNY Conference on Environmental Science and Studies at ESF’s Gateway Center, Syracuse, on April 7-8, 2023.

This student-led event aims to provide students enrolled in research in Central New York and surrounding universities and colleges an opportunity to present their work and workshop their ideas with peers. The conference is also open to participation from faculty and members of the public.

Research presentations should ideally be relevant to environmental science and studies (ESS) and students are invited to submit abstracts for oral presentations in any the following thematic areas:

  • Emerging topics in environmental and natural resources research
  • Complexity and uncertainty within socio-ecological systems
  • Environmental determinants and health equity
  • Thinking of the future: Echoes of the past in the present environment
  • Ecological and social implications of a changing climate change
  • Issues of Justice: Equity in ESS research
  • Local impacts of global challenges: Environmental stories of Syracuse

Abstracts can be submitted via the registration form. Students should choose “Presenter” (15- or 30-minute presentation) to enter their research information.

Conference Highlights include a catered welcome ceremony for all participants at the Salt City Market, Syracuse, keynote speakers each day, professional development workshops for graduate students, and a Thesis Elevator Pitch competition open to ESF graduate students.

Register for the conference here by Feb. 28.

Registration is $25 for graduate students, $15 for undergraduates, and $45 for faculty. Registration fee is waived for ESF graduate students and CNY LSAMP Scholars.
