Mighty Oak Monday: Sam Day

Major: Sustainability Management, B.S.

Hometown: Wantagh, NY

Class of ‘25 (Fall)

Sam Day is a digital Mighty Oak that’s performing quite the balancing act — training the National USA Luge Candidate team while studying full-time. As a former USA luge athlete himself, he’s seen plenty of locales, instilling in him a desire to protect our environment.

We asked Sam some questions about his path, passions, and future goals.

What do you do now?

I am currently coaching the National USA Luge Candidate team for the winter, as well as modeling for Wilhelmina [an international model agency]. I also work at a florist sometimes while balancing school on top of all of this.

Why did you choose ESF?

I chose ESF because I always had a passion for the environment. My sport of luge is always surrounded by nature, so I was interested in the inner workings of it and how to maintain the natural beauty of all the places I got to visit!

What are your future goals?

My future goals involve modeling, coaching my children, and getting a foot in the sustainability field. I’d like to be able to make something I love more sustainable, such as fashion or winter sports.

What’s an interesting tidbit we should know about you?

I’m a 2020 Youth Olympian! I almost went to the Olympics but retired the year before the trials. I enjoy walking on the beach and petting my dog.
