ESF Timber Sports Team Sweeps Spring Meet

SYRACUSE, N.Y- April 30, 2025 - For the first time in ESF history, the Timber Sports team took home spring meet championship trophies in all three divisions - Men's, Women's, and Jack and Jill.

The 77th annual Spring Meet was held at the University of New Hampshire April 26 and 27 with athletes from all over the Northeast competing in 19 events.

“The team has been working hard all year to prepare for this meet and it paid off,” said Kaisa Mackey, team president.

After the first day of competition all the ESF teams were ranked first in their divisions, scoring highly in team canoeing, log rolling, and pulp toss. On Sunday, the ESF teams started the day in high spirits to maintain their lead with excellent scores in team sawing, chopping, packboard, and doubles and singles events.

The women's division had seven competing teams and ESF placed first by an impressive margin of 25 points. The women’s team scored first place in 11 events with close second and third-place finishes in the remaining events.

“The women’s team found their groove this year working together and training effectively to win every meet this season,” said Mackey, a senior forest ecosystem science major

The men’s division had nine competing teams creating a close race between ESF, Paul Smiths, and the University of Maine with only nine points separating first and second place. ESF was able to reclaim the trophy after narrowly losing it the year before. The men’s team placed first in seven events and had close second and third places in many other events.

The Jack and Jill team has made immense progress this semester with an entirely new lineup of athletes this year to win the J&J trophy for the second consecutive year. The Jack and Jill division had six teams competing and was the closest race of the day with ESF winning by one point. The team placed first in seven of the events and was consistently in the top three in most other events.

“This meet was an excellent end to the season, especially for the many graduating seniors to end their collegiate Timber Sports journey with such a victory for ESF,” said Mackey.
