ESF’s Syracuse Campus Levels Up with Striking New Look That Guides, Welcomes, and Stands Out
$310,000 Investment in Campus Signage Provides Clarity, Identity, and Impact
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — June 23, 2026 — The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has completed a major campus enhancement project with the installation of 34 new exterior signs across its Syracuse campus, strengthening wayfinding, campus identity, and the overall visitor experience.
The initiative includes a wide range of signage improvements: a new campus sign at Parking Lot 22; two gateway signs displaying ESF’s signature message, “Improving Our World:” multiple large and small wayfinding signs; 11 building signs; parking designations; a building sign for Operations & Maintenance; five updated campus maps; six street signs; a new welcome sign; and updated vinyl for the Gateway Center north sign.
Together, these elements create a cohesive and accessible environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The signage system was thoughtfully designed to complement and align with the neighboring Syracuse University campus, creating a seamless visual experience across shared spaces while maintaining ESF’s distinctive identity and mission-driven messaging.
“Our new sign project reflects our commitment to creating a campus that is welcoming, easy to navigate, and representative of who we are,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “These improvements strengthen not only the daily experience of our campus community, but also how we present ourselves to the broader public as a leader in environmental education and innovation.”
The project was led by Liz Parsons, associate facilities program coordinator, with key contributions from Amanda Lincoln, senior art director, and Pete Vandemark, director of environmental health and safety services. ESF also extends its sincere appreciation to the field crews and installation teams whose expertise and dedication brought the project to life. Working across campus environments and conditions, their craftsmanship and attention to detail ensured each element was installed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
“I’m really proud of what we accomplished,” said Parsons. “It’s amazing to see all the pieces come together into something that not only looks great but genuinely helps people feel at home and find their way around campus.”
This investment marks an important step forward in enhancing campus infrastructure, reinforcing ESF’s presence in Syracuse, and supporting its continued growth and engagement.
