Study Abroad Application Process
Please note: the application process for the Munich Exchange Program is different. For information on that program and process, please visit the ESF Exchange Program webpage.
Step 1: Select a Program
Before submitting an application for study abroad, you must choose a program. For information on available options, visit the Study Abroad Programs webpage.
Step 2: Apply directly to the study abroad program
Each program, whether through an ESF partner or another SUNY institution, will have its own application and requirements. Generally students should complete the program-specific application before the ESF Off-Campus Study Request. Refer to the website of your selected program for more information on application requirements and eligibility.
Step 3: Complete ESF Off-Campus Study Request form
Once you have applied to your chosen program, complete this form:
- ESF Off-Campus Study Request Form (fillable PDF)
The second page of the form must be signed by your Academic Advisor and Curriculum Coordinator. Once you have completed the form and obtained all required signatures, submit it to the Office of Instruction and Graduate Studies in 227 Bray Hall for final approval.
The deadlines for submission of the Off-Campus Study Request are:
- November 1 for study in the Spring semester
- April 1 for study in the Summer or Fall semester
Step 4: Complete post-acceptance paperwork
Once your request has been approved, you will receive an email with some post-acceptance paperwork and other requirements. Be sure to complete all follow-up requirements for both ESF and your study abroad program provider to maintain eligibility for participation.
