Bold plans and policies lay the framework for sustainability action and implementation.

The College’s Sustainability Action Plan was developed over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year through a deeply collaborative process. It compliments and, in many ways, provides an implementation framework for ESF’s Strategic Plan, which names sustainability as one of two institutional “overarching principles.”

The Office of Sustainability uses industry standard reporting frameworks, such as AASHE STARS, and third-party rating systems, such as LEED, WELL and TRUE, to share best practices, benchmark to peer institutions, and verify progress made in achieving sustainability goals.

The plans, policies, and initiatives below represent part of ESF’s vision to serve as the flagship SUNY institution embodying operational sustainability, offering a curriculum designed to educate future environmental leaders, and performing a diverse range of research to improve our world.
