EFB 496 - Exploring Conservation Biology through Literature and Gameplay (3 credits)
The majority of Americans stop taking science classes once they leave High School yet there are other opportunities for them to learn about science via popular media such as books and game play. In this class we will assess what aspects of conservation are present in these popular media and compare that to the conservation curriculum that we teach here at ESF. Through a critical analysis of board games, table top role playing games and popular novels we will assess what topics are present in popular media and which ones have been left out.

EFB 500 - Andes/Amazon Wildlife Conservation Field Studies (3 credits)
This course is a field-based course focused on tropical rainforest ecology and conservation in southeastern Peru. This course aims to provide immersive, hands-on learning in one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems, with an emphasis on scientific process, field research methods, data analysis, and regional conservation science. Students will engage in activities such as flora and fauna surveys, behavioral and bioacoustics monitoring, habitat assessment, and population viability analysis, alongside collaboration with local conservation groups and exposure to regional conservation challenges and solutions.
