Bio
Dr. Lew McCaffrey originates from the United Kingdom, where he obtained degrees in geology and mineral exploration. His doctoral work looked at the origin and occurrence of high fluoride groundwater and its effects on dental fluorosis. He worked for a decade for a large UK water utility and the British military as an environmental manager, followed by a year as a humanitarian aid worker in war-torn Angola. He migrated to central New York with his US wife in 2012. After teaching at SUNY ESF, Clarkson University and Le Moyne College, Lew joined NYS DEC as a research scientist in 2017. He maintains strong links with SUNY ESF.

Research
Dr. McCaffrey's current research interests include the use of GIS, statistics, modeling, field work, environmental health and limnology in seeking to protect water quality in the Finger Lakes.
