Fourth annual NYS Mass Timber Symposium
- a virtual kickoff and an in-person return!
As mass timber adoption disrupts the traditional approach to structural systems, this year we’ll explore how that disruption can help reshape all of the construction process! Our free online symposium will kick off with Ona Flindall from OSLOTRE AS. Ona will share how her firm designed and delivered Norway’s first office building constructed explicitly for future disassembly and reuse. Next up, Dr. Paul Kremer will share how mass timber can extend our existing buildings upward, and even connect at height to create new communities above our cities. To wrap up our online presentations, Sandra Lupien will bring us back to the ground to explain how Michigan State University was able to repurpose a decommissioned powerplant with a mass timber addition to meet their needs for current and future STEM laboratory education.
Starting on March 2nd, we’ll be back in person! Taylor Cabot’s keynote will book-end with Michael Green’s keynote presentation from 2018. Taylor will share how we have gone above and beyond the challenge that Michael set. As project manager, Taylor will explain how the tallest mass timber structure in the world got built here in the US. Next up, Lindsey Wikstrom will explore material flow for mass timber, and Jeff Spiritos will bring us the story of mass timber for affordable housing happening now in the Northeast. To wrap up, Mikhail Haramati, Christina Aßmann, and Michael Hindle will all discuss how buildings can be carbon storage solutions!
Please join us first online, and then in-person, and hear from these outstanding speakers.
