Lincoln University is located in Lincoln Township, near the city of Christchurch in the Canterbury region of New Zealand’s South Island. It is the oldest agriculturally-based university in the southern hemisphere, and offers a variety of academics as well as other activities. Like ESF, Lincoln is a small university, which means it can offer specialized education and support to visiting students.

The city of Christchurch is only 20 minutes away from campus and offers a variety of cultural and entertainment options. If you enjoy outdoor activities, there are also many opportunities for hiking, visiting the beach, seeing wildlife, and more.

Lincoln University offers a wide array of courses which can work for many ESF majors. Click here to search for courses. Note that pre-requisites are able to be waived for study abroad students.

Examples of courses include:

  • Architecture
  • Biological Science
  • Environmental Studies
  • Forestry
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Microbiology
  • Biochemistry
  • Plant Protection
  • Plant Science
  • Water Resource Management
  • Soil Science
  • Ecology
  • Animal Science

And more!

Lincoln University has several housing options at different price points. Some of the options are "fully catered" which means they include a meal plan at the dining hall. Living in "self catered" housing means you will purchase groceries and prepare your own food. When selecting your housing preference, be sure to consider your budget and lifestyle to determine which will work best for you.
