ESF Announces Summer Session 2011
SUNY-ESF will offer more than three dozen courses this summer, giving students from both ESF and other colleges and universities an opportunity to explore new subject areas and earn credits between semesters.
ESF will offer four summer terms that include online, classroom and field-based courses. The sessions are:
- Maymester (two weeks): Monday, May 16, to Friday, May 27
- Summer Session 1 (six weeks): Monday, May 23, to Friday, July 1
- Summer Session 2 (six weeks): Tuesday, July 05, to Friday, Aug. 12
- Combined Session (12 weeks): Monday, May 23, to Friday, Aug. 12
ESF Associate Provost for Outreach Chuck Spuches said that in addition to serving students enrolled in ESF undergraduate and graduate degree programs, the summer courses are available to students in good standing at other colleges or universities. Students might find this a convenient way to make up a course or advance their academic progress.
"ESF has long had a rich program of summer activities related especially to our research endeavors," Spuches said. "We have now ratcheted up our commitment to serve ESF students and others through a more formal program of courses and programs offered on- and off-campus during a four-part summer session."
The college also offers courses of interest to K-12 teachers and rising high school seniors. For example, for the fifth consecutive year, Visiting Professor Gary Lim will offer Introduction to Green Entrepreneurship to rising high school seniors.
"Students from throughout Central New York and indeed from throughout New York state, including New York City, have taken Professor Lim's course with great enthusiasm," Spuches said. "Professor Lim, himself an entrepreneur, a consultant, and a bestselling author, brings his own rich education, experience in Silicon Valley, and inspiring enthusiasm to his work with these motivated young people."
Enrollment in this course is limited; early registration is encouraged.
Summer Session 2011 represents many of ESF's academic areas and includes applied mathematics, information literacy and writing skills, as well as courses that will serve academic professional development needs and interests.
Registration begins the week of April 11.
