SPARE Program Offers Professional Development for Engineers
The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) will offer two opportunities in May for engineers to earn Professional Development Hours while developing skills in the area of photovoltaic installation and maintenance.
SUNY-ESF's basic and advanced photovoltaic installer courses, offered through the Solar Power As Renewable Energy (SPARE) program, have been approved for professional development hours for engineers. The four-day basic SPARE course is approved for 21 hours and the online hybrid advanced course is approved for 12 hours.
The basic course will be held Monday, May 9, through Thursday, May 12, at Onondaga Community College. Class will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The course includes a mock solar build and a field trip to view a working residential system.
The online portion of the advanced course begins May 7 and continues through June 7. The onsite class will be held at Onondaga Community College 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 at Onondaga Community College.
As more clients request information about including solar installations in their projects it's helpful for those working in the field to have more than a cursory knowledge of the benefits, installation practices and use of photovoltaics. These courses will help engineers develop confidence and understanding and, in turn, communicate better with clients and subcontractors.
