ESF to Confer Honorary Degree at Convocation
The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) will present an honorary degree to Dan Reicher during convocation exercises May 12 at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center.
Reicher is executive director of the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford University.
He has established himself as a leader in environmental policy. He has more than 25 years of experience in energy technology, policy, and finance, including serving in the Clinton administration at the Department of Energy as assistant secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and recently as a member of President Obama's Transition Team. Reicher came to Stanford in 2011 from Google, where he had served since 2007 as director of Climate Change and Energy Initiatives.
During convocation, ESF will confer 332 bachelor's degrees, about 85 master's degrees and some 15 doctoral degrees.
The college also awards associate in applied science degrees at its Ranger School in the Adirondack community of Wanakena. Thirty-nine students in the forest technology program, 12 students in the environmental and natural resources conservation program and seven students in the land surveying technology program will receive degrees during a ceremony 11 a.m. May 19 at Clifton-Fine High School.
Commencement weekend festivities in Syracuse begin at noon Saturday, May 12, with curriculum-specific receptions for degree candidates, their guests and members of the ESF college community.
The college's traditional convocation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center. Bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree candidates will be honored. During the convocation, departmental honors will be bestowed upon the top students in each of the college's discipline areas. Chelsae Radell of Camden will be the student speaker. Alice Gallagher of Camp Hill, Pa., will present the class gift.
On Sunday, May 13, a continental breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. in the Marshall Hall Alumni Lounge, followed by a recognition ceremony for advanced degree candidates.
Joint commencement exercises with SU will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the Carrier Dome. Class Marshals leading the ESF degree candidates in the Commencement procession are Mike Miles of Ontario and Meagan Pepper of Plattsburg. Departmental scholars are Robert Miller of Margaretville (chemistry), Colin Swider of Middlesex (environmental and forest biology), Danielle Kloster of Holmes (environmental science), Patrick Carroll of Pleasant Valley (environmental studies). Colby Fisher of Endicott (environmental resources engineering). William Brown of Wyoming, Mich. (forest and natural resources management), Thomas McAbee II of Tully (landscape architecture), Jason Kucharski of Allegany (paper and bioprocess engineering) and John Casey of Syracuse (sustainable construction management and engineering).
