ESF Gears Up for Summer Session
The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is gearing up for an exciting Summer Session of online, on-campus, field, and international courses. ESF professors are recognized as experts in their fields and the session offers a number of the College's outstanding faculty members.
A visiting professor in the Department of Forest and Natural Resources Management, Gary Lim, will teach Introduction to Green Entrepreneurship (FOR 106). Lim has experience in functional and general management. He spent 20 years in the high technology sector of Silicon Valley, Calif., Lim is founder and president of the Aurarius LLC consulting firm and has been involved with four start-up or turnaround companies during the course of his career. His book, The Road to Gumption: Using Your Inner Courage to Balance Your Work and Personal Life was an Amazon bestseller.
Kevin Stack, principal, and Josh Stack, counselor at law, with Northeast Green Building Consulting, LLC, will teach Biomimicry and Resilience Science for Buildings, Communities and Complex Sustainability Initiatives (CME 496).
Kevin Stack is a visiting instructor in the Department of Sustainable Construction Management and Engineering. He is an ecological builder, building scientist, and ecoliteracy educator who designs, teaches, and builds in nature's image. He lectures internationally as a member of the Biomimicry Speakers Guild and as a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) faculty member. Kevin holds certifications as a Home Energy Rating System rater, LEED for Homes Green Rater, Building Performance Institute building analyst and envelope specialist. He was educated in forestry and biology at ESF and Syracuse University. He has educated thousands of architects, engineers, construction professionals and students in biomimicry and sustainable construction across North America.
Josh Stack is an attorney and counselor at law, an advisor in resilience and a Biomimicry Institute-trained designer. He concentrates in resilience design and biomimicry and advises clients on how to strategically apply sustainability science through his self-developed framework of co-evolutionary design. He was educated first in biology and living systems at Cornell University and then in law at the SUNY Buffalo School of Law, the Cornell University School of Law and the New York University College of Law.
David Eichorn will teach the online course, Climate Change Science and Sustainability (ENS 200). Eichorn is a meteorologist with more than 30 years of experience, including 19 years as chief meteorologist at WSYR TV Syracuse. He has a specialized background in lake effect snowstorms and the atmospheric patterns that produce them, and has expertise in mesoscale atmospheric modeling. Currently Eichorn is engaged in research on spatial analysis of atmospheric model output using GIS. He has won awards for severe weather coverage of the March 1993 superstorm and Hurricane Gloria and for educating the public in meteorology.
Sean Vormwald will teach Sustainability Program Management (EST 496/696). As director of sustainability at Onondaga Community College, Vormwald is uniquely qualified to teach this course, which focuses on the practice and theory of managing sustainability programs within organizational settings. His role at Onondaga includes integrating sustainability into campus operations, encouraging sustainability-related curriculum development and coordinating educational outreach programs. Vormwald has also provided sustainability consulting services for municipal, non-profit and business clients through his company, Sustainable Transitions Inc., and has managed environmentally focused public outreach campaigns for several non-profit organizations.
