Princeton Review Names ESF a Top 10 Green College

ESF Ranked No. 4 for Being Green

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Oct. 21, 2024 – A new report from The Princeton Review names the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) among the country’s top Green Colleges for 2025. ESF, one of the nation’s premier colleges focused exclusively on the study of the environment, developing renewable technologies, and building a sustainable future, is ranked No. 4, rising from last year’s ranking of 13.

“Not only is it rewarding to be recognized by The Princeton Review, we are especially pleased to see the hard work of our faculty, staff, and students validated by the new Top 10 ranking,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “With the recent launch of our institution-wide Sustainability Action Plan, we are confident that ESF will continue to rise in these important rankings while making a positive impact on the world.”

The plan aims to foster collaboration, align with New York state's climate goals, improve ESF’s performance in sustainability assessments (AASHE STARS), and create a campus that reflects the community’s values.

Schools for the Guide to Green Colleges were chosen based on a 2023–24 survey of administrators at nearly 600 colleges about their institution’s sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs. The Princeton Review also surveyed students about their "green" campus experiences. The schools on the list are recognized for superb sustainability practices, a strong foundation in sustainability education, and a healthy quality of life for students on campus.
