Dr. Lindi Quackenbush Receives NYS GIS Lifetime Achievement Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Oct. 10, 2024 – Dr. Lindi Quackenbush, interim vice president for research and professor at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York State Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Association. This prestigious award recognizes her exceptional contributions to the GIS profession throughout her career.

“Dr. Quackenbush’s dedication to GIS and her commitment to the profession have inspired countless students and colleagues,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “Her work, particularly in applying remote sensing to environmental monitoring, has had a significant impact. This honor reflects the positive influence she has had on our students and the entire GIS profession.”

Quackenbush was recognized for her significant and longstanding contributions to GIS, having made a profound impact on both the association and the profession in New York state. The NY GIS Association views her career achievements as deserving of special recognition.

In 2018, Quackenbush received the Individual Contributions to the Profession Award from the NYS GIS Association for her outstanding contributions to the profession that year.

A member of the NYS GIS Association since 2007, Quackenbush co-chaired the NYS GIS Conference from 2007 to 2012, served on the NYGeocon planning committee from 2012 to 2017, and contributed to the Geospatial Summit/Watch Party committee from 2012 to 2022. She also served for six years as an academic representative on the New York State Geospatial Advisory Council.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented at the New York State Geospatial Summit, held Sept. 24 at Welch Allyn Lodge in Skaneateles, N.Y.
