Student Blog: ESF Gears Up for Earth Week
It’s April, which means Earth Week is almost here at ESF! The Earth Week Committee has been hard at work since January planning an awesome lineup of events around this year’s theme: Resilience. And trust me, it’s worth the wait.
Kicking off the week of April 21, we’ve got new additions like a mini farmer’s market and a disco roller-skating night, alongside classic favorites like T-shirt tie-dyeing and, of course, Quadstock.
The celebration starts with a screening of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax in Gateway. “It was a quick vote from the committee members about what they wanted to show,” said Marie Hutchinson, a junior landscape architecture major and Earth Week coordinator.
As the week goes on, the schedule fills up fast—there’s something going on every day, and you won’t want to miss it.
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming:
Monday, April 21:
Before The Lorax rolls, start your week with SEEC’s scavenger hunt or help clean up the neighborhood
with the Euclid Trash Pick-up.
Tuesday, April 22:
The Earth Week Committee is hosting a “Fix It Fair” on the Quad. Got something broken?
Bring it and find someone who can help repair it. Clubs will also be on the Quad and
in Gateway with hands-on activities like poetry, sewing, and gardening. Plus, the
Office of Sustainability’s farmer’s market will pop up on the Quad. Later that night,
head to the Barnes Center for a disco roller-skating party hosted by the Black Student
Union.
Wednesday, April 23:
It’s field day! Play kickball against ESF faculty, or chill out with frozen treats
from the Alchemist Society’s liquid nitrogen ice cream. Want something crafty? Roots
& Pursuits is hosting basket weaving on the Quad.
Thursday, April 24:
Double ice cream trucks on the Quad—yes, dairy and dairy-free options. On the Moon
Patio, the Desi Club is throwing a Holi celebration, a joyful festival of color, love,
and spring.
And then comes the grand finale: Quadstock.
Fifty vendors, live music, a beer garden for the 21+ crowd, and all-around amazing
vibes take over campus.
