Meet the Faculty - Elie Gurarie
In this video, Dr. Elie Gurarie shares the story of how a chance meeting at a research workshop in the Canadian Rockies led him to discover ESF — and eventually find his perfect fit here as a quantitative wildlife ecologist in the Environmental Biology department. He talks about how the college's mission, collaborative spirit, and students, who are as curious as they are passionate about the natural world, drew him in.
Now, as a professor, he brings that same energy into his teaching, leading courses like Wildlife Ecology and Management and Population Ecology and Management, where he encourages students to look at wildlife not just through data and models, but through history, culture, and human connection.
Dr. Gurarie also gives viewers a glimpse into his exciting research on Arctic caribou — a massive, team-based project exploring how these resilient animals survive and adapt in extreme environments.
