ESF Hosts Environmental Summit
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — June 4, 2026 — Aspiring scientists presented their original research at the Environmental Summit on the campus of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) on June 4.
The ESF High School Environmental Summit brought together about 100 students from four schools who participate in ESF in the High School: East Syracuse Minoa, Hudson Valley Pathways Academy, Syracuse Academy of Science and Utica Academy of Science.
The summit is an annual research symposium designed to help students gain experience presenting and discussing their original research to their peers, and high school and college faculty. ESF in the High School is a dual-enrollment program that allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn credits from ESF. It also provides high school teachers an opportunity to teach at a higher level as adjunct faculty to the College.
“It’s always exciting to see the research our ESF in the High School students present at the summit,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “Their participation in the course shows they already have a commitment to improving our world, and ESF is proud to help them pursue that passion.”
For more than 20 years, ESF in the High School has taught students across New York state about the complex scientific and social perspectives behind today’s environmental issues. The hands-on courses nurture students’ interest in science and introduce them to potential career paths.
