ESF, SU Annual Service of Commemoration to Be Held March 17
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Feb. 4, 2026 — A Service of Commemoration honoring members of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) and Syracuse University (SU) communities who passed away from Jan. 1, 2025, to present will be held Tuesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.
Those honored include students, faculty and staff; retirees; trustees; and honorary degree recipients of ESF and SU. The service will also include prayer, music and remarks. The names of those who have passed away will be read and candles will be lit collectively in their memory.
The service is inspired by the Remembrance Scholars’ motto of “Look Back, Act Forward,” a call to action to remember those we have lost and act forward in their memory.
“We gather each year to honor members of the ESF community whose lives have shaped our College,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “Their contributions continue to strengthen our shared mission. We remain grateful for the lasting impact they leave behind and the opportunity to honor them at this annual service.”
If you know of someone who passed away between Jan. 1, 2025, and the present who should be honored, please forward their name and affiliation to Hendricks Chapel at [email protected] by Thursday, Feb. 12.
All are welcome to attend and honor the important contributions of respected members of the University community.
