SUNY Upstate Medical University
Entry Level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (3+3 DPT)
High school seniors may apply to select ESF Bachelor of Science degree programs and simultaneously apply to SUNY Upstate Medical University (UMU) for early assurance admission to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. This 3+3 DPT program allows students to complete both their Bachelor of Science degree and their Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT) in SIX years rather than seven.
Students matriculate in the Physical Therapy program at UMU after three years of study at ESF. The first year at UMU counts for both the fourth year of the Bachelor of Science and the first year of the Doctor of Physical Therapy. After completing their first year at UMU, students receive a bachelor's degree from ESF. Upon successful completion of two additional years of graduate work, students will be awarded a DPT degree from UMU.
Interested high school seniors apply for admission to ESF and UMU simultaneously. Students must apply to ESF for one of these approved programs: Biotechnology, Environmental Biology or Environmental Science. The DPT prerequisite courses must be completed as part of the BS program. Sample schedules for each of these approved programs highlighting DPT required courses. The Upstate Medical University 3+3 DPT Application must be submitted between September 1 and February 1 of the high school senior year and all credentials must be received at UMU by February 10. Go to the "The Application Process for the 3 + 3 DPT Early Assurance Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University" section of the UMU 3+3 DPT web page for details. The application review by each campus is independent of the other. Questions about ESF Admissions should be directed to esfinfo@esf.edu or 315-470-6600 and those about UMU Admissions should be directed to admiss@upstate.edu or 315-464-4570.
