Students at SUNY ESF are making real-world impact across the globe. Patricia Morais Fernandes, a Portugal native, is here at SUNY ESF attempting to save the Ozark chinkapin (Castanea ozarkensis). The tree is a long-lost cousin of the American chestnut (Castanea dentata), and both species are fighting functional extinction caused by blight.
