Students Find Nothing to Love at Love Canal

Students from the ESF Department of Environmental Studies took a field trip this spring to the Niagara Gazette, Love Canal, and Niagara Falls to learn about journalism and environmental issues. Patrick Lawler, associate professor, and Kristopher Dodson, instructor, took students on the field trip as part of their environmental journalism and environmental communication workshop class.

Galapagos Summer

A graduate student at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry has embarked on a trip to a remote island in the Galapagos Archipelago, where she and three field assistants will spend 10 weeks monitoring the behavior of 39 giant tortoises that will be released into the wild in an effort to restore the island's damaged ecosystem.

‘Syracuse Eats’ Friday at Regional Market

Forty-five students from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) and Syracuse University will gather at the Central New York Regional Market Friday with dozens of people who work in the local food production and distribution system to discuss ways to increase Central New Yorkers' access to fresh local food.

The View from 90,000 Feet

A package that was launched from the ESF campus and lifted a pair of cameras some 17 miles above Earth was recovered in Poughkeepsie, providing a group of students with stunning photographs and a lesson in remote sensing.

Class Project: Into the Blue

A class of ESF students launched a weather balloon carrying cameras that were set to take photos and shoot video footage as the balloon flew up to 100,000 feet above the earth and traveled some 150 miles, part of a class project in remote sensing.

GCI Finalist in “Green of the Crop” Contest

The Green Campus Initiative, a student organization dedicated to making ESF a greener and more sustainable institution, was named first runner-up in the inaugural "Green of the Crop" contest sponsored by The Amos Project, Clean Tech Center, CNY Works, Earthsense, MDA, New York's Creative Core, Syracuse Center of Excellence, and The Post Standard/Green CNY.

Spring Break 2010

An Earth Day waste audit at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) led a student "green campus" organization to remind the College community to be more careful about what goes into the trash.

ESF Professor Joins Oxford Round Table Discussion

Dr. Thomas Amidon of ESF's Department of Bioprocess and Paper Engineering was one of 37 scientists from around the world who participated this spring in an Oxford Round Table meeting that examined the findings of the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference.
