Mighty Oak Monday: Dr. Namjoo Heo

Dr. Namjoo Heo, '21, completed his doctorate in environmental biology this fall after three years of studying hart's tongue ferns. Hart's tongue is an emblematic plant that has received considerable attention from fern conservationists worldwide. Many of those studying these ferns are at ESF.

Optimism in the Face of Species Extinction

ESF was honored to host one of the world's most influential environmental scientists—Dr. Stuart Pimm, the Doris Duke Professor of Conservation at Duke University—for an on-campus event Thursday, April 21. He presented the Global Conservation Lecture in the Gateway Center. Earlier in the day, Dr. Pimm spoke with the ESF Office of Communications and Marketing about the issue of mass species extinction and the role he believes ESF can play in finding solutions to save species.

ESF to Host Public Hearing on Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act Goals

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, will host one of 10 public hearings led by the NYS Climate Action Council at 4 p.m. April 26 in the Gateway Center.

ESF Readies to Celebrate Earth Week

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, will celebrate Earth Week with a full slate of events planned to celebrate the Earth, and call attention to environmental and social justice issues. This year's events include lectures on conservation and mass extinctions, Indigenous teachings, community clean-ups, an environmental justice panel, a birds of prey exhibit, and a music festival. This is also the first year since 2019 the schedule is fully in-person following two years of COVID restrictions.
