For Alex Allen, it all started at 12 years old when he was gifted two wood duck boxes from the Syracuse Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Alex was captivated by the conservation story behind the wood duck, and why so many can now be found across the United States. From that point on, he became singularly focused on becoming an expert in Wetlands with a concentration on ducks and fish.

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, was named one of the nation's best colleges for students seeking a great education with excellent career preparation and at a relatively affordable price by the Princeton Review. The education services company also named ESF the Best Public School for Making an Impact, ranking the College No. 1 out of 20 U.S. higher education institutions ranked in the annual list.

Grace Burrows came to ESF from Brookdale Community College in New Jersey and is loving it here. During her first two years of college, she developed a strong passion for nursing our planet back to health. That passion led her to ESF.

Ranger School Graduates May 14

Ranger School will hold commencement ceremonies at Clifton Fine Central School in Star Lake, New York, at 11 a.m. May 14 to award associate in applied science degrees. Those graduates will include 22 students in the forest technology program, 28 in the environmental and natural resources conservation program, and seven in the land surveying technology program.

As Daniela Ilona Manuschevich Vizcarra, '14 reflects on how she got to her current role, she finds herself feeling grateful for the time she spent at ESF. She came to ESF on a Fulbright scholarship to pursue her Ph.D. in Environmental and Natural Resources Policy. Now, she's the head of the Division of Natural Resources and Biodiversity for the Chilean Ministry of Environment.
