ESF Celebrates Campus Sustainability Month

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, is celebrating Campus Sustainability Month throughout October to raise awareness of the value of sustainability.

"While we use October to celebrate ESF's sustainability initiatives, they're something we focus on year-round," said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. "We're proud to showcase innovative and impactful sustainability programs throughout campus and effectively weave sustainability into academic programs. Our sustainability practice is a key part of our mission to 'Improve Your World'."

To celebrate and kickoff a new year of sustainability, ESF is holding the following events:

Trash + Recycling Audit

Get an up-close look at what the campus discards and how well we sort trash and recycling. Participants will sort through campus trash — wearing proper PPE and with safety training — to understand the college's trash and recycling habits.

10 a.m. – noon | Wednesday, Oct. 5 | Grounds Building (across from Walters Hall)

Campus Crunch

ESF students, faculty, and staff will join colleges across the state as everyone bites into locally grown apples to celebrate New York state's food and farming.

12:30 p.m. I Oct. 24 I Moon Library patio (rain location: Gateway Center)

Sustainability Pledge

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni can take the Sustainability Pledge to Pledge their commitment to being an environmental champion by engaging in sustainable practices on campus, at work, and at home.

Campus Sustainability Month is organized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). ESF was recently recognized by AASHE as a top performer in its annual Sustainable Campus Index.
