ESF President Joanie Mahoney Honored for Sustainability in the Built Environment
The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, is honored to announce President Joanie Mahoney is this year's recipient of the prestigious Kevin P. Stack Award for Sustainability by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
The award is given annually to someone who embodies the mission of USGBC in practice, proving the value of working together for a built environment that is ecologically, socially, and economically healthy, resilient, and prosperous for all; whose work is committed to preserving and enhancing the living world; and who is personally and professionally committed to eco-literacy and climate change education of how the human-built environment interrelates with ecosystems and the living world.
"The Kevin P. Stack Award is an incredible honor and I'm humbled to be this year's recipient. Sustainability has always been a passion of mine, it was a priority in my role as Onondaga County Executive, and will remain a key priority for ESF's campus," said Mahoney. "Thank you to the USGBC for their commitment to building better environments and providing the global standard for green buildings."
Mahoney was recognized not only for her contributions to sustainability and the built environment when she served as Onondaga County Executive from 2008 to 2018, but also for her current leadership at ESF.
The Kevin P. Stack Award is the highest and most prominent award given annually by the green building community. Previous winners include Kevin Stack, LEED Fellow; SUNY ESF Board Member Rick Fedrizzi; and former New York First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer.
The award will be presented to Mahoney at USGBC's Leadership Awards Gala on Nov. 15.
