SUNY ESF Ranked Among Best Graduate Schools By U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report ranked graduate programs at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, among the best in the nation. Five of ESF's graduate programs are included in the annual ranking released March 29 with its Environmental Engineering program in the Top 100 at No. 66. The College is also ranked in Biology (No. 175), Chemistry (No. 176), Chemical Engineering (No. 121), and Engineering (No. 152).
"The graduate programs at ESF share a foundation of rigorous science and dedication to the careful use of natural resources. This recognition is a testament to not only the breadth and depth of our programs but the dedication and excellence of our faculty and the commitment of our students to help solve the pressing environmental issues of our time," said ESF President Joanie Mahoney.
ESF offers 50 areas of study in nine graduate programs each that focus on the environment, developing renewable technologies, and building a sustainable and resilient future through design, policy and management of the environment and natural resources.
Designed for prospective students looking to further their education beyond college, the Best Graduate Schools rankings evaluate programs in a variety of disciplines. By collecting graduate school data annually, U.S. News is able to present the most current figures on enrollment, job placement, faculty and other critical quality indicators that help prospective students make informed decisions.
"The Best Graduate Schools rankings evaluate schools across nearly 200 different areas, such as law, business and nursing," said Robert Morse, chief data strategist at U.S. News. "We regularly update the methodology and add new programs to keep the rankings relevant and valuable for prospective students."
Rankings of doctoral programs in the sciences were based solely on the results of surveys sent to academic officials in fall 2021 and early 2022 in biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, mathematics, physics, statistics and biostatistics. The individuals surveyed rated the quality of the program at each institution.
