Mighty Oak Monday: Conner Grant

Conner Grant always planned to come to ESF, though he did not come here right away. He spent a year studying at SUNY Broome, his local community college, to start on his general requirements and prepare to pursue the Aquatics and Fisheries Science degree at ESF. Last Fall, he achieved his long-time goal and transferred to ESF.

Going onto this path was a natural thing for him. Growing up, Grant spent lots of time on Cayuga Lake and in the outdoors. Initially, he would impress his parents and other relatives by saying he wanted to be an entomologist, someone who studies insects. By 10 though, he realized how much he loved fish and decided being an ichthyologist, someone who studies fish, instead. It became his life's passion to be the expert on fish. "When I realized there was an aquatics and fishers major at ESF, there was really no other option for me," says Grant, "It was where I was eventually going to college."

Grant intends to go to grad school and earn both his master's degree and doctoral degree. In the end, he plans to be an ichthyologist, whether that's as a professor or a researcher.

Thank you for sharing your passion with us and congratulations on all your accomplishments Conner!
