SUNY ESF Engineering Programs Earn ABET Re-Accreditation

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Nov. 11, 2025 — The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has earned re-accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for all three of its undergraduate degree programs in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET has accredited ESF’s chemical engineering, bioprocess engineering, and paper science and engineering programs through Sept. 30, 2031, affirming that they meet rigorous standards recognized nationally and globally.

“ABET accreditation is a powerful affirmation of ESF’s commitment to excellence. It tells our students, their families, and employers that our engineering programs meet the highest global standards,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “We appreciate the recognition that our graduates are prepared to lead in solving some of the world’s most pressing engineering challenges, while advancing innovation and sustainability.”

“ABET accreditation affirms that what we deliver in the classroom meets the highest standards of the engineering profession,” said Dr. David Newman, interim chair of the Chemical Engineering Department. “Our faculty are committed to preparing students not just with technical knowledge, but with the ability to apply that knowledge to real-world challenges—from the development of new  biomaterials to alternative fuels.”

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. Accreditation assures that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which it prepares graduates.
