The 2024-25 SUNY Fundraising Survey Report, released last month, shows growing philanthropic support across the SUNY system, including the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), even as higher education navigates significant change. ESF Students Honored with Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence

Two students from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) received the 2026 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence, the highest honor SUNY bestows upon graduating students. Gabrielle “Gabby” Augustin-Orcel and Raymond Bailey were recognized for integrating outstanding academic achievement with leadership, research and service. SUNY honored them April 27 at a ceremony in Albany.

Basil Seggos to Receive Honorary Degree from SUNY ESF

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry will award an honorary degree to Basil Seggos, partner and senior policy director at Foley Hoag and the longest tenured commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, in recognition of his national leadership on climate, energy and environmental policy. The honorary degree will be bestowed at commencement exercises 2 p.m., May 9 at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview.

The championship meet for Northeast collegiate timber sports is coming to Oneida Shores Park April 25–26. The Northeast Collegiate Lumberjack Conclave, hosted by the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) timber sports team, will run 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Thirteen colleges are expected to compete for top honors in traditional lumberjack events.

ESF Club Hockey Team Plays on Olympic Ice

It wasn’t a miracle on ice, but for ESF’s ice hockey club team it was a memory they’ll never forget when they traveled to Lake Placid to play an exhibition against ESF’s Ranger School hockey team on the 1980 Olympic Ice in Herb Brooks Arena.
