Trail Makers: 100 Years of the Northville-Placid Trail
Doreen Alessi-Holmes Conservator & Collections Manager
One hundred years ago Edwin"Doc" Noyes, and Howard Rowe cleared the way for the Northville-Placid
Trail, a remote backcountry trail taking hikers on a journey through the heart of
the Adirondacks. Join Conservator and Collections Manager of the Adirondack Experience,
the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, Doreen Alessi-Holmes to learn about the history
of this roughly 138-mile trek across the Adirondacks.

Northwest Passage by Kayak
Eileen Visser, General Bio Course Coordinator/Outdoor Studies Instructor
Join Eileen Visser (Biology, SLU) as she describes the first single season human-powered
traverse of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. This elusive sea route was long impassible
due to thick year-round ice but climate change has opened the channels between high
artic islands, allowing their four person team to cross the 1800 mile Northwest Passage
adventure of tackling sea ice, wind, cold, and polar bears to experience this 103
day immersion in nature July-October 2023.

Those with a love of the outdoors always want to be safe. Join Mark Soloski, Ph.D.,
Emeritus Professor of Medicine at John Hopkins School of Medicine, to talk about how
we might get Lyme disease, what it looks like in humans and how we can prevent getting
ill!

Adirondack Inventory and Monitoring Camera Trap Network
Paul Jensen, DEC Senior Wildlife Biologist & adjunct Professor at SUNY ESF
Join Paul Jensen, wildlife biologist with NYS DEC to learn more about the Adirondack
Inventory and Monitoring Camera Trap Network that began in the 2020 pandemic. The
network's goals are to collect and share data on wildlife populations, monitor species
particularly sensitive to climate change, and to give SUNY college of Environmental
Science and Forestry students in the region real-world training.

Why do we have all these people wearing blue vests and inspecting boats? Why do we
hear about invasive milfoils and round gobiesin the news? How can we prevent and manage
aquatic invasive species. Join Brian Greene, Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator
from the Nature Conservancy's Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program, to learn about
invasive species and what you can do to prevent them from causing harm.
