Users will need to create an account. Registration requires that you use your esf.edu or syr.edu email. Account creation ensures licensing compliance and security and also allows users to save search history and utilize the CAS Newton AI features of the platform.
Functionality
The CAS SciFinder Discovery Platform is the world’s most comprehensive source for chemical and scientific intelligence, designed to help researchers move quickly from a question to an evidence-based solution.
- Integrated Literature & Patent Search: Access millions of peer-reviewed journals and patents across disciplines like chemistry, engineering, and materials science, all expertly indexed to help you find relevant data that standard search engines miss.
- Substance & Reaction Intelligence: Use the "CAS Draw" tool to search by chemical structure or reaction, allowing you to identify millions of substances, predict synthetic pathways (Retrosynthesis), and view step-by-step experimental protocols.
- AI-Guided Discovery with CAS Newton: Use natural language to ask complex scientific questions—like "How do I synthesize bicyclic amines?"—and receive summarized insights and direct citations powered by science-smart, agentic AI.

Exporting Citations
CAS SciFinderⁿ allows you to easily save your search results and references directly to citation management tools such as Zotero and Mendeley.
- Select Results: Check the boxes next to the references you wish to save from your search results page.
- Click Export: Look for the Export icon (usually an arrow pointing out of a box) at the top of the results list.
- Choose Format: Select RIS as the file format; this is the standard "language" used by both Zotero and Mendeley for seamless importing.
- Save & Import: Click Export to download the file, then simply drag and drop that file into your Zotero or Mendeley library.
