SUNY ESF
Campus Hazing Prevention & Awareness

At ESF, we believe that membership in clubs and organizations is an important part of the student experience. Student groups, organizations, and athletic teams are important contributors to a vibrant and positive campus life and are expected to act in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and to treat others with respect, especially as it relates to becoming a member and continuing membership in an organization.

Hazing is unacceptable in all forms and has no place in the ESF community.  The ESF definition of hazing available as a part of the ESF Hazing Policy.

How to report an incident of hazing

If you believe that you or someone you know has been a victim of hazing, you may report the activity to the Office of the Dean of Students or University Police.

Hazing Transparency Report

The Stop Campus Hazing Act amends section 485 (f) of the Higher Education Act, otherwise known as the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act. The Stop Campus Hazing Act requires the campus to release a report at least twice a year that summarizes all hazing violations of the institution’s code of conduct by student organizations recognized by the institution.

SUNY ESF has no incidents to report for the reporting period from July 1, 2025 through December 1, 2025.

Hazing Prevention Strategies

Students are expected to be familiar with the campus hazing policy. Students involved in leadership positions and in campus organizations are provided with information about hazing and bystander intervention. All student athletes are required to attend a compliance meeting at which hazing is addressed.

Faculty and Staff who serve as Clery Campus Security Authorities (CSA) are notified about their reporting responsibilities, including for reports of hazing. Student Club Advisors are also notified about the hazing policy.
