Thousand Islands Biological Station
Limnological Monitoring

Research on the limnological characteristics of the St. Lawrence River involves trends in plankton populations relative to system changes in productivity.

In conjunction with the Cornell Biological Field Station in Bridgeport, NY, TIBS is helping to maintain a long term dataset designed to monitor the biological, physical and chemical parameters of the upper St. Lawrence River.

The current focus of this monitoring is on pre-and post-Dressenid mussel introductions and nutrient reductions that have led to changes in water clarity, nutrients, and benthic communities.
