ESFiD and SU Net ID
Account Set Up
All students, staff, and faculty at SUNY ESF have two primary sets of credentials: the ESFiD and the SU NetID and password. Use the information below to setup your ESFiD. To setup your SU Net ID visit the Syracuse University self service portal.
Access to campus digital resources is a privilege granted campus-affiliated persons as guided by our Electronic Mail System Usage and Use of ESF Computing and Network Resources policies. In brief, please do not misuse campus resources or distribute access to non-ESF affiliated persons. IT at ESF will never ask you for your password in an email, nor will we threaten to disable your account for any reason
All ESF students, faculty, staff wil be asked to set a password that meets the following requirements:
- A least 14 characters long
- Passwords must contain one character from each from the following 4 categories:
- Special character (e.g. #,$,%,^, etc.)
- Note: please resist using the @, &, /, \, or = symbols in your password
- Capital letter (A,B,C, D, etc.)
- Lower-case letter (a,b,c,d, etc.)
- Numeric character (1,2,3,4, etc.)
- Special character (e.g. #,$,%,^, etc.)
- Does not contain common words
- Does not have two of the same letter or number in a row
Use the information below to get your ESFiD setup.
If you are newly accepted to ESF follow the directions below to set your initial ESFiD password.
Part 1: Getting your ESF Pin
- Open a browser
- Go to the ESF Applicant Portal
- Log in with your personal applicant email address/password
- On the right, in the yellow box, look for your ESF PIN (it starts with F)
Copy or write down your ESF Pin
Part 2: Activating your ESFiD
- Go to the Accepted Student ESFiD Activation page (newstudent.esf.edu)
- In the middle, type your:
- Applicant email
- ESF Pin
- Set a password
- Check the box agreeing to receive notifications and our campus acceptable use policy
After you successfully set your ESFiD password, and in the confirmation email, you will be given your ESFiD username. Please make note of this.
Common Question: "Ok, so I set a password. Where do I go now?" For an accepted student or applicant, the next place to go is usually the following Web site: https://myesf.esf.edu. You will login to this site with your new ESFiD username and password:
Forgot your ESFiD password?
While still an applicant, you can reset your ESFiD password by completing the same two steps above that you used to originally set your password. If you remember your ESF PIN, you can skip right to step 2 to reset your ESFiD password.
If you have paid your deposit and have received a welcome email from CNS you can now complete the setup of your ESFiD using the directions below.
Note: Make sure you using a device that is coming to campus with you.
- Setup DUO
- Login to https://portal.office.com
- Set your password recovery options
Go to https://www.outlook.com to check your e-mail.
Forgot your ESFiD password?
Go to the Accepted Student ESFiD Activation page to reset your password.
This process helps you set up your ESFiD for first use which will provide you access to ESF resources.
All new employees will receive an email from HR with your SU ID number (9 digits) and from a CNS staff member with your ESFiD, and a temporary password.
Use the directions below to setup your ESFiD.
Step 1: Enroll in Duo
Enroll in DUO multi-factor authentication.
Step 2: Set a new password
Once enrolled in DUO, please set a permanent password by logging into the Microsoft portal at https://portal.office.com using your email address and temporary password.
Step 3: Set and confirm your Self-Service Password Recovery Portal options.
You need to complete 2 of the 3 password recovery methods presented and then confirm
your settings to finish the process.
That's it! You can now access Office 365 and other campus resources as well as change your ESFiD password, or unlock your account, at any time from anywhere on any device (from the links below).
