Sustainability at ESF
Green Office Certification

The Green Office Certification Program is designed to guide members of collective office spaces to assess their current practices, set goals for new practices, and earn recognition for their accomplishments. The goal of this program is to support the development and continuation of sustainable office spaces that benefit both people and the planet. A sustainable space doesn’t just mean saving energy and reducing waste, but it also means fostering healthy relationships with oneself and other members of the campus community. Since sustainability is an interdisciplinary field, the Green Office Program incorporates the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its certification process, further highlighting and recognizing the importance of wellbeing to sustainability practices.

The Green Office Program focuses on sustainable practices across the following areas: Energy, Printing & Paper, Materials & Zero Waste, Food & Dining, Purchasing, Water, Transportation, and Community & Wellness. All faculty, staff, or student groups can participate independently or collectively as an office. Campus office spaces can either earn a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum certification depending on how many sustainable practices they are able to adopt.
