Zachary Isaman ’25
Environmental Resources Engineering
Through a deep-seated commitment to academics, social leadership, and environmental
activism, Zachary Isaman has gained a big-picture perspective on how to improve the
world.
Isaman majors in environmental resources engineering. His core studies provide analytical
skills in math and engineering, while classes in environmental justice give him a
broader view of how economic disparities impact people’s lives.

Magdala Klein ’27
Climate Epidemiology
Experts warn climate change will make infectious diseases more likely and more widespread. That’s why ESF junior Magdala Klein is majoring in climate epidemiology. “You can help a lot of people on a large scale with epidemiology,” she says.

ESF: "Academic Forward"
Kaia Singleton ’27
Currently a sophomore in the chemical engineering program, Singleton enrolled in environmental science but found that she loved math and chemistry more than biology. She ultimately chose chemical engineering because it engaged her interest in physics as well. “My overall goal at this point is to work in chemical cleanup and prevention, putting processes in place to stop spills and disasters,” said Singleton. She hopes to go to grad school to help further her career.

Carter Smith ’25
Environmental Education and Interpretation
When Carter Smith was 14, she went on a hike led by an interpretive ranger. By the end of the hike, Smith vowed to become an educator. “I’d wanted to do something with the environment since I was a kid, like everyone else at ESF, but I didn’t quite know what,” she said. “I found out on that hike.”

Making a Difference for Generations to Come
Hannah Smith
When Hannah Smith visited an ESF field station in 2013 as part of her Adirondack Semester with St. Lawrence University, she immediately knew she would come to ESF; she just didn’t know when and what for.
After receiving her BA from St. Lawrence, Smith spent ten years working various jobs, from starting her own business to food service, agriculture, and customer service.
